Dear Students,

I am writing to encourage those of you interested in hospital and "health-system pharmacy" to join the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.  The society has over 30,000 members, and is one of the most active pharmacy organizations in existence.  As a student you gain free membership into the Student Forum which has special information and programs geared specifically toward you.  ASHP is also the organization that administers the matching program for residencies and is responsible for accreditation of the majority of the Pharmacy Practice Residencies across the country.  You will also receive AJHP, one of the most widely read pharmacy journals.  As a member, you also have access to the organization's personal placement service when it comes time to look for a position after graduation.  Best of all, as a student you get an 85% discount on your yearly dues making your grand total just $32 for all of the above!  (Trust me folks, that's a great deal)!

This year, 2 students will have the opportunity to go to the Midyear Clinical Meeting in Las Vegas in December on us.  How?  Enter to participate in the Clinical Skills Competition later this Fall (details to come).  The local winners will be sent to Vegas to compete nationally!

Please visit www.ashp.org/student if you want to know more.  You may also contact me (your faculty liaison).  Alternately, you can contact Jill Reynoldson, your student liaison.

There are brochures available near Pat Prime's desk in the office area on the 1st floor.  You may mail in your dues, or join via the web.

If you do join, or are already a member, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.  I would like to keep a list of members so we can send you e-mails and keep you up to date.  A website specific to the organization is being created as we speak.

Thanks,
